INSTALLATION TIPS

This page is provided for our customers that choose to install their own decals.

Tools you will need: Scissors, Xacto knife or razor blade, clean spray bottle, dish washing liquid, squeegee (an old credit card or driver's license will work), measuring tape, clean towel, and hair dryer (optional)

NOTES: It is recommended the car should not have been waxed within the past 30 days. Windows should not have been treated with water repellent treatments. New auto paint should be allowed to cure out before applying decals. Apply decals in the shade (no direct sunlight). Temperature should be 60-80ºF. Wind or wind gusts will cause problems. (Do not use ammonia based cleaners, even when installing on windows. It may cause adhesive failure.) It is optional to use masking tape as a hinge. This will help you to keep the decal straight and where you want it while you install it.

SURFACE PREPARATION

All surfaces must be considered dirty and must be cleaned prior to the application of markings.

Clean the area where the markings are to be applied with a household cleaner, a non-ammonia base. We recommend an alcohol based cleaner such as denatured alcohol or equivalent. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

When applying letters to painted surfaces, paint should be an enamel base paint or high quality latex enamel. We do not recommend or guarantee applications to latex paint.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS

Air and application surface temperatures must be above 40 degrees.

CENTER HINGE METHOD

  • 1)Position legend with tacks (small pieces of masking tape). See figure 1
    2) Apply masking tape vertically through center of legend. See figure 2
    3) Remove tack from one end, lay legend over towards center tape hinge.
    4) Pull release liner away from application tape and legend until close to hinge.
    5) Cut release liner with scissors and discard.
    6) Squeegee down exposed half of legend, holding the end up and allowing the   squeegee to cause contact.
    7) Remove the tack hinge and lay the other half over.
    8) Remove the rest of the release liner and squeegee into place.                            9) Remove application tape.

HORIZONTAL HINGE METHOD

1) Position legend with tacks (small pieces of masking tape). See figure 1
2) Apply masking tape horizontally across top of legend. See figure 3
3) Remove both tacks.
4) Cut legend into smaller areas (vertically between letters). See figure 4
5) Starting at right (if right handed), flip one section over and release liner.
6) Wipe sign surface free of dust (which may have come from back of legend).
7) Squeegee into place using one smooth downward stroke. Repeat for balance of legend.
8) Re-squeegee using more pressure.
9) Remove application tape.

Limitations of Warranty: We will only warranty decals that are from defective material. Installation related problems are assumed to be the fault of improper installation. We will not take back half installed decals so please inspect it carefully prior to installation. We do not issue cash refunds.
